The same trusted agency — now E&B
E&B Insurance Agency is the next chapter of an agency whose roots in the Eastern Panhandle reach all the way back to 1869. What began as a handful of local insurance offices on the streets of Martinsburg grew, merged, and endured through more than a century of change.
In 1957, two of those offices — the J. Roy Nadenbousch Insurance Agency and the Clyde E. Smith Insurance Agency, both founded in Martinsburg in the early 1900s — joined together to form Smith-Nadenbousch Insurance. Over the decades the agency opened offices in Charles Town and Berkeley Springs and welcomed other long-standing local agencies into the fold, including one tracing its lineage to the Dawson Insurance Agency of 1869.
Today we carry that legacy forward under a new name — E&B Insurance Agency — with the same independent, neighbor-first values that have defined us from the start.
150 years, one community
The roots take hold
The Dawson Insurance Agency opens its doors — the earliest thread in the lineage that becomes E&B, written in the ledgers of a young Martinsburg.
Two Martinsburg names emerge
The J. Roy Nadenbousch Insurance Agency and the Clyde E. Smith Insurance Agency are each founded, serving families and businesses across Berkeley County.
A landmark merger
The Smith and Nadenbousch agencies join forces to create Smith-Nadenbousch Insurance — a single, stronger independent agency for the Panhandle.
Growing into Charles Town
A second office opens to serve Jefferson County, extending trusted local service further across the Eastern Panhandle.
On to Berkeley Springs
A third location brings the agency’s neighbor-first approach to Morgan County, alongside the acquisition of other respected local agencies.
